Tom Stader
Executive Director / Founding Director

Tom Stader, Founder and Director, launched The Library Project in 2006. Through his travels and time spent living in Southeast Asia and China, Tom became aware of the range of cultural diversity throughout the region. What affected him the most was the lack of quality education for all children. The Library Project is his way of giving those children left behind the opportunity for a quality education.

Tom Stader has worked throughout the USA, China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Tom graduated from Northern Arizona University's School of Communications in 1996.

Chris Brown
Board Member

Chris Brown is the Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover China. Mr. Brown has an undergraduate degree from the University of North Florida, and holds a MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. He is currently serving on the Executive Committee for the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Brown has lived in the United States and Asia. He first visited China in 1986.

Donn Garton
Board Member

Donn has lived in Vietnam for nearly 4 years and is currently in charge of Alive Interactive Media, a 40 person design studio located in Ho Chi Minh City that produces 3D digital content for video game makers like Electronic Arts, Sony and Rockstar Games. His work with Alive has allowed him to travel extensively throughout Asia as well as the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Donn overseas all aspects of Alive from operations, strategy, funding and sales.

Scott Glassmeyer
Board Member

Scott Glassmeyer currently resides in Bangkok, Thailand where he has lived for the past 4 1/2 years. After graduating from Colorado College in 1991, he lived in Connecticut, Wyoming, and California. While living stateside, Scott worked in several different fields ranging from retail sales and account management, to internet and software sales. Over the years, his passion for travel has taken him to many countries throughout the world. Since settling in Bangkok, Thailand in 2001, Scott has worked as a teacher, in magazine ad sales, and business brokering before focusing his skills and experience on various academic and cultural exchange programs.

Ryan Holliday
Board Member

Ryan Holliday is President of Colorganics Inc, a natural cosmetic company based in San Francisco, California that supports fair trade, organic farming and socially responsible investing. www.colorganics.net

Nicholas Ingleton
Board Member

Nicholas Ingleton has been in Asia since 1958 and currently resides in Tokyo. He was previously managing director of Time Inc.'s book publishing businesses in Asia from 1968 to 1981, and chairman and later a director of Time Life Educational Systems Inc., Time Inc,'s corporate training business in Japan. Since 1986 he has been president at various times of a number of the Tuttle publishing and distribution businesses. He is also a director of Aston Holdings (Overseas) Limited in Hong Kong and Aston Associates Limited in Beijing.

Kevin Kruse
Board Member

Kevin Kruse is the founder and President of AXIOM Professional Health Learning, a medical education company based in Pennsylvania. Kevin is also the author of Technology-based Training: The Art and Science of Design, Development and Delivery.

Philip McCrea
Board Member

Philip McCrea is the CEO of ClearPoint Learning, a media-based education company servicing the healthcare marketplace with offices in New York, London and Pune, India. He has founded several other technology and education companies. Philip brings expertise in building organizations as well as a passion for children’s education. He lives in Ridgewood, NJ.

Phil Mercurio
Board Member

Phil Mercurio is an Environmental Chemist currently living in Adelaide, Australia. Phil graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1998 with his Bachelor of Science degree. He has since completed an additional BS Honors degree at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland, Australia and is working on an MS at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. His academic and professional career has focused on contamination in the marine environment and he has done research on heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, PCB’s, and pesticides. Phil’s last job at Mote Marine Laboratory sent him to Arctic Alaska to work with subsistence hunters on human health risks due to possible pollution in whales, seals, and other wildlife.

Jackie Ng
Board Member

Jackie has been living and working in Hong Kong for the past seven years. She is an in-house lawyer at Ernst & Young. Much of her personal time is spent working with various non profit organisations focusing on education, human rights and climate change. Jackie was one of the founding members and is a board member of Bring Me A Book Hong Kong, a non profit organisation which donates libraries to community centres, schools and other charitable institutions in Hong Kong. She hopes to expand her involvement with library donations into China, and to share with The Library Project her experience gained from the work done so far in Hong Kong.

Scott Perkins
Board Member

With over 10 years of Internet-related operations experience, Scott oversees design, development and management of all of Connectify’s services. Prior to Connectify, Scott developed data warehouse, product procurement and fulfillment systems at pdqVET, Inc. to better serve e-commerce needs within several thousand veterinarian hospitals. As the Director of Operations, Scott was responsible for all internal and external systems. Prior to pdqVET, Scott served as Operations Manager for NBC Internet, formerly Xoom.com. As an early member of the Xoom team, Scott was directly responsible for large portions of Xoom and NBCi operations, providing internal service solutions supporting over 400 employees. Scott was also responsible for negotiating, implementing and managing several critical outsourced relationships. Scott holds degrees in Entrepreneurial Studies and Information Systems Management from Babson College in Wellesley, MA.

Adam Simpkins
Board Member

Adam Simkins is the General Manager of Hyatt Regency Incheon, South Korea. A British national, Adam was born in Thailand and spent his childhood in many different Asian countries. A graduate of Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. He joined Hyatt International, which took him to numerous countries locations including Saipan, Hong Kong, Bali - Indonesia, Tianjin - China, Fukuoka - Japan, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia, Hangzhou and Xian - China. Hyatt Regency Incheon is Korea's only five-star hotel located near Incheon international airport and offers refreshingly varied dining options, a luxurious fitness facility, comfortable guestrooms and an extensive conference venue.

Patrick Watene
Board Member

Patrick founded Global Horticulture Limited (New Zealand) in 2004 – established specifically for exploring opportunities in horticulture in China and East Asia. GlobalHort is one of the largest horticultural companies in Shaanxi Province with an integrated business model from orchard to market. He has a BSc with a double major in Geography and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia and an MBA from Waikato University of New Zealand. He is also the present chairman of the Xi’an Foreign Business Forum. Patrick has a wide variety of interests including travel and the outdoors and he is a keen sportsman. He absolutely believes in lifetime learning and education and that these should be available to everyone irrespective of their social or financial position. Patrick is married to Petrice, his wife of 18 years and together they have three sons.

Jenny Wang

Jenny Wang is manages everything that goes into providing a library to an elementary school. She manages all regional research, conducts Pre and Post Assessments, schedules and implements all library deliveries. Jenny also manages all Chinese Government run partner NGOs and the local school boards.

Belinda Yu
Logistics and Purchasing Manager

Belinda is The Library Project's Logistics and Purchasing Manager. Belinda is our resident magician. She accomplishes the impossible: continually improving the quaility of books that we donate to schools and sourcing kid-friendly furniture at the best price. SHe then makes sure these items arrive in the tiny villages throughout China. Last year her success rate was amazing...only one chair arrived damaged, out of thousands purchased and shipped.

Nichole He
Project Manager

Nichole is our Library Project, Project Manager. Nichole is focused on managing large library donations of 5-50 libraries at a time. She works directly with local government, education board and corporate and individual donors donors.

Jocelyn Jia
Library Donation Lead

Jocelyn is The Library Project's Library Donation Lead. Jocelyn focuses much of her time on researching tiny regions of China in search of the next best place to benefit from book donations. She focuses on answering questions such as: the regional GDP, economic situation, political situation, educational situation, and what plans the Central Government has for each area.

Jason Hicks
Beijing Representative

Jason Hicks is the Managing Director of Aston Associates, a soft skills and language training firm in Beijing and Shanghai. Jason has been actively involved in charity most of his professional life. He sits on the board of a non-profit theatre, in the US, that works with inner city youth helping them explore their creativity. Living in China for over 5 years now he has seen first hand the educational situation in rural areas and it has convinced him to get involved. Jason has been a strong supporter and sponsor of The Library Projects work in the country for the past year.

Todd Harman
Beijing Representative

Todd Harman has lived and worked in China since 2005. An American from NYC, he is currently working in Beijing for Aston Associates, providing corporate consulting and training for Fortune 500 clients. In his free time, he enjoys practicing taichi and reading. Todd has been instrumental putting together small events in Beijing to benefit The Library Project.

Christine Wang

Christine has been a part of The Library Project's team since 2008, helping to provide over 100 rural elementary school libraries. She has been a complete rockstar, impacting TLP in more ways than we can express. Christine lives and works in Shanghai.

Christopher Brantley
Shanghai Representative

Christopher first came to China as an English teacher, but spent the next 8 years traveling to every corner of the country in various management positions. During that time, he discovered the outstanding diversity in Chinese culture, picked up Mandarin, and ate everything in sight. He now resides in Shanghai as the General Manager for Aston Associates.

Eric Jones

Eric Jones is from Warren, Pennsylvania and has been living & working in Shanghai, China for four years. After graduating from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, he came straight to Jinan, China to work & travel for a year. That year became two years, and then three. Now, after almost eight years in China, he has worked in various cities around China in fields such as teaching, financial consulting & IT. He now focuses his time on his web hosting company, TeraScape.NETworks.

Alice Stader

Alice Stader is a research technician currently residing in San Francisco, California. She works as a research assistant at UCSF Medical School, Department of Anesthesiology. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 2001 with a BA in Anthropology and continued on with a MA in Anthropology at Florida Atlantic University in 2005.

 

Dalian Children's Orphanage

The Dalian Children's Orphanage was our first library donated in Dalian, China. The Dalian Children's Orphanage received over 3,500 books, a table, chairs, book shelves, plants, mats, and lighting in partnership with Aston English and The Library Project.
